Round-by-round: exactly what's asked & how to prepare
Cognitive & Technical Assessment
~50-60 minAn elimination stage combining cognitive ability (verbal, critical reasoning, numerical) with technical MCQs on fundamentals like networking, cloud basics, and common sense of pseudocode. You must clear cutoffs in each subsection.
- Numerical reasoning and data interpretation
- Verbal ability and critical reasoning
- Attention-to-detail and error-spotting items
- Fundamentals MCQs: OS/networking/cloud basics
- Pseudocode output prediction
- Practice cognitive-style questions on free platforms
- Revise fundamentals MCQs across CS subjects
- Do timed mocks that mix aptitude and tech MCQs
- Practice pseudocode tracing
- Missing a single subsection cutoff
- Neglecting the technical MCQ portion
- Rushing attention-to-detail items and losing easy marks
- Clearing every subsection cutoff
- Balanced aptitude and technical accuracy
- Careful, accurate reading
Coding Assessment
~45 minAn elimination round with a small number of coding problems (often two) in a language of your choice. Higher scores can qualify you for the Advanced ASE track, which pays more and has a deeper technical interview.
- Array/string problem with edge cases
- Logic problem using loops and conditionals
- A problem needing a hash map or simple sorting
- Basic recursion or math-based problem
- Output-formatting-sensitive question
- Solve 25-40 easy problems on HackerRank/LeetCode
- Practice exact I/O formatting
- Handle edge cases explicitly
- Aim to fully finish problems, not partially
- Failing hidden test cases
- Poor time management across problems
- Ignoring this round when targeting only the base ASE role
- Correct, test-passing code
- Clean edge-case handling
- Higher scores for the Advanced ASE track
Communication Assessment
~20-30 minA separate scored module (often automated) testing pronunciation, fluency, listening, and grammar. It is a real gate: weak spoken English can end your candidacy even with strong coding.
- Read-aloud passages for pronunciation and fluency
- Listen-and-repeat or listen-and-answer tasks
- Sentence construction and grammar items
- Describe an image or situation aloud
- Fill-in-the-blank and error correction
- Practice reading English passages aloud clearly and steadily
- Record yourself and check pace and clarity
- Revise common grammar rules
- Do free spoken-English drills daily for a week
- Speaking too fast or mumbling on read-aloud tasks
- Long pauses that hurt fluency scores
- Grammatical slips in the writing items
- Clear, steady pronunciation
- Good fluency without long pauses
- Accurate grammar
Technical + HR Interview
20-45 minOften a combined final round. Technical questions cover your resume, one language, and CS basics; HR portion covers motivation, relocation, and joining. Advanced ASE candidates face a deeper technical dive.
- Project walkthrough and your specific role
- OOP and one language in depth
- Basic DBMS/OS questions
- Why Accenture and career goals
- Relocation and flexibility
- Revise one language, OOP, DBMS, and OS
- Prepare crisp project explanations
- Research Accenture's business and values
- Practice HR answers on motivation and flexibility
- Overstating resume skills
- Generic HR answers
- Weak project ownership
- Solid fundamentals and clear communication
- Genuine motivation
- Flexibility and professionalism
What to master
- Cognitive aptitude (verbal, numerical, reasoning)
- Spoken and written English
- CS fundamentals MCQs (OS, networking, cloud)
- Pseudocode tracing
- Core DSA and one language
- OOP concepts
- DBMS basics
- Resume project depth
Eligibility
Typically 60% aggregate or equivalent CGPA throughout Class 10, Class 12, and all graduation semesters, with no active backlogs at application. Exact criteria vary by drive.
Accenture salary & compensation (2026)
Pays above Indian-heritage peers; ASE is the fresher band, promotions run through levels (13→12→11→9…) and Advanced Technology Centers plus specialized skills lift comp.
| Role / Level | Experience | India — total CTC | US — total comp | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Associate Software Engineer (L13) | 0–1 yr | ₹4.5–6.5 LPA | — | Base higher than TCS/Infosys freshers; small variable |
| Software Engineer (L12) | 1–3 yrs | ₹6.5–11 LPA | — | Annual promotion cycle plus market-adjustment raises |
| Senior Software Engineer / Analyst (L11) | 3–6 yrs | ₹11–20 LPA | — | Laterals in cloud/data/SAP negotiate strongly |
| Team Lead / Specialist (L9) | 6–10 yrs | ₹20–35 LPA | — | Bonus + equity/awards grow at higher levels |
| Manager / Architect (L8) | 10+ yrs | ₹35–60 LPA | — | Consulting and specialist-architect tracks reach the top |
How the package is structured
- Base ~80–88% of CTC; variable/bonus ~10–15% and better-paid than heritage peers
- No large fresher joining bonus, but mid/senior laterals often get sign-on and equity awards
- US hiring exists but is small relative to India; India comp is the reference here
- Growth via yearly promotion cycle, market adjustments, and moving into hot skills or people-management
Indicative 2026 market ranges aggregated from public sources (levels.fyi, Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, candidate reports). Compensation varies widely by location, team, level calibration, and negotiation — use these as directional benchmarks, not guarantees.

Why is the Communication Assessment a separate gate?
Accenture is client-facing at scale, so spoken and written English is formally scored as its own elimination step. Weak communication can fail you regardless of coding strength.
Can a strong section offset a weak one?
No. Each assessment has its own cutoff. You must clear every gate independently to move forward.
What is the difference between ASE and Advanced ASE?
ASE is the base engineer role. Advanced ASE (higher grade) pays more and requires a higher coding score plus a deeper technical interview.
How coding-heavy is it?
The base coding round is easy-level with a few problems. Serious depth matters mainly if you are targeting the Advanced ASE track.
Do backlogs disqualify me?
You generally need no active backlogs at application. Confirm the exact rule for your drive.
How long does the whole process take?
Campus drives are faster (about 2-4 weeks); off-campus can take 6-12 weeks from test to offer.
